Avon and Somerset Constabulary Selects Niche Technology for an Integrated Records Management System Solution

AVON AND SOMERSET, UK: Niche Technology, the leading provider of police Records Management Systems (RMS) for more than 100 police agencies, including 10 of the 30 largest agencies in the English-speaking world, has been selected by Avon and Somerset Constabulary to provide an integrated solution for core business systems. With this award, Avon and Somerset Constabulary becomes the 19th UK police force to choose Niche Technology, along with other similar-sized forces, such as South Wales and Merseyside.

Niche Technology will supply the police force’s 2,900 sworn officers, police staff and partner organizations with the technology necessary to seamlessly manage all aspects of crime recording, investigation, intelligence management, Vulnerability Management, Custody and Detainee Management and Electronic Case Preparation.

The Niche RMS solution will also play an essential part in the force’s Crime and Policing Plan, and will enable improved management and investigation of:

  • Anti-Social Behavior
  • Domestic Abuse
  • Repeat Offending
  • Witness and Victim Care

The Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) Niche RMS solution was recognized by the Constabulary for its innovative technology and integration capabilities. The implementation of Niche RMS provides the Constabulary with the additional support needed for their new Operating model in order to continuously improve organizational efficiencies.

“We look forward to partnering with Niche Technology,” said Avon and Somerset Police Chief Superintendent Tracy Hayler. “We believe the Niche RMS solution can help improve officer safety while making our investigations more efficient, thereby allowing us to better serve our community.”

Avon and Somerset Police formed in 1974 from the merger of the former Somerset and Bath Constabulary with the Bristol police force and the Staple Hill division of Gloucestershire Constabulary. Policing in the Avon and Somerset force area dates back more than 175 years, when Bath and Bristol were among the first cities in the country to form their own police forces. The force supports a population of 1.6 million, which is expected to increase by 36,000 in the next two years.

As a commercial COTS software package, Niche RMS is a cost-effective way for the Constabulary to gain enhanced operational efficiencies in a variety of areas, including the management of missing persons, property, risk assessment and vulnerable persons.
