TORONTO, ONTARIO — The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has been chosen by its peers as the recipient for the 2019 Niche Innovation Award. Given during the annual Niche User Group Conference, the Niche Innovation Award recognizes police agencies and individuals that embody the best use of NicheRMS™ for executing either operational or administrative duties.
“Once again, the Ontario Provincial Police have demonstrated their commitment to intelligence-led policing,” said Alan Stauch, Niche Technology North American Customer Support Director. “We are honored to acknowledge their continued journey in using technology to enhance their policing efforts and better serve Ontario’s citizens.”
The Communications and Technology Services Bureau of the OPP was selected for their Electronic Ticketing (eTicketing) project, which resulted in the electronic creation of Provincial Offence Notices for particular violations in Ontario, Canada. The OPP initiated the eTicketing project in early 2018, and used NicheRMS as the primary application to deliver this innovation within the organization, which presented significant intelligence potential.
An entire occurrence is completed in NicheRMS, including all of the entities, charges, and related information. From the time an officer completes the data entry, prints off the offence, serves the driver, and returns to his/her vehicle, the information is already in NicheRMS as an occurrence. Officers can also capture roadside warnings, including the delivery of a hard‐copy warning to the driver at roadside.
Using NicheRMS for the eTicketing project has allowed the OPP to successfully managing large volumes of potentially valuable data. The result is increased officer efficiency as well as officer safety by providing instant access to new data within NicheRMS that is searchable across not only the OPP, but also by other Ontario Police Technology Information Cooperative (OPTIC) agencies.
The OPP launched its eTicketing project at the 407 Highway Detachment in June 2018, and will expand to three more detachments in the Greater Toronto Area in the spring of 2019.
